ASKING FOR HELP PROGRAM

“I saw a bug yesterday,
Collecting some food among the debris.
In the filthiness of the courtyard.

When something was found,
The bug would swallow it with voracity,
Without previous verification or smelling.

The bug was not a dog,
Nor it was a cat,
Not even a mouse.

The bug, my God, was a man!”

Manuel Bandeira (Poet) – Rio, December 7, 1947.

Unfortunately, this unbelievable hard reality described above by the poet still exists in a large scale in Brazil. On the other hand, however, it is stimulating to note that ample and joint efforts have been developed by the Government and the majority of the community, thus creating some possibilities to reach the “hunger zero” register.

The invisible hunger that kills thousands of people of all ages and from diverse social groups still remain almost ignored. That situation takes advantage from the lack of distinction between “eating” and “appropriate feeding”, due to the limited existence of adequate food for those who suffer several intolerances, let alone the results of examinations which remain unknown for patients and others that are not even required by many doctors. It seems to be more attractive satisfying the gluttony than taking care of one’s health. Smiling, the jesting spirit discovers easily that we are the country with one of the richest food garbage and rest of aliments which are misspent daily. For this reason, the Children´s Life-Savor has elaborated the Program Asking for Help.

OBJECTIVES:

It aims the understanding and the importance of ways which would enable the development of appropriate alimentary habits to meliorate the health of the population in general, through a preventive social and educational program, disseminating the necessary knowledge about quality of aliments, as well as the know-how on distinct forms of alimentary intolerances – BACK-BAND ILLNESS, DIABETES, FENILCETONURIA and others – with procedures enabling the identification and combat of the symptoms by elaborating exams, avoiding the incidence of diseases and disturbances, by minimizing their negative consequences on casualties, besides other aspects.

* The Program Asking for Help has as its ideological elements the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – adopted and proclaimed in the UN General Assembly by Resolution Nr. 217 A (III) on December 10, 1948, also signed by Brazil.
